Love….. it can go from one extreme to another; either it is
totally mushy and commercial or something as simple as a love of the outdoors.
Well, I wanted to do something completely
different. Firstly, I haven’t done any hand stitching in this piece
except when putting on the binding; and secondly, I’m getting over my fear of
free motion quilting and have done the entire background in different motifs.
During the Olympics in February, I found that every time the
Canadian flag was raised, I stood proudly in my living room belting out the
Canadian anthem with a great sense of pride.
So, my interpretation of “Love” is for my country. I may not like the politics, the politicians,
the taxes or the weather, but I’m very thankful to be living in this country - O Canada!

ReplyDeleteI like your use of free motion quilting.
ReplyDeleteThe quilting is absolutely wonderful! I like the idea and the quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a crisp clean stylish design, I love all the quilt patterns and the texture of the white leaves. The piping just adds something extra to the finish
ReplyDeleteKatie, this is a spectacular piece! The crisp red maple leaves are a perfect foil for your wonderful stitching. Your love of country shows beautifully here.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to see you using your FMQ skills in this piece. I love the quilting you have done. I don't think you need to worry about your quilting skills anymore, it all looks perfect from here!
ReplyDeleteKatie, what a great quilt. The contrasts of colour and texture make this a stunning work. I agree with Janice that the FMQ is fantastic and we need to see more!
ReplyDeleteI knew this had to be yours, Katie! I went to school with a Canadian girl and you just about have me standing in my living room (in Australia) singing O Canada! This is a fabulous quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe machinequilting is really beautiful, so many different patterns on such a little quilt.
